Many students dream about traveling the world. Study abroad trips range from destination, duration of the study, costs, and much more. When considering a study abroad trip, most people see the cost and realize how expensive the trip may be. Although it is true that studying abroad can be expensive, there are a lot of options to help get the costs down. First off, if you are trying to study abroad, you need to find a program and figure out where you are going. Visit http://www.longwood.edu/studyabroad/ to see what programs exist and can easily connect to you.
Once you find a program and decide where you are going, you will then need to decide where you will be staying. Many programs will offer a choice of staying in an on-campus residence hall/apartment or to stay with a host family. This choice is up to you; however, staying with a host family may be more beneficial than you might think. Host families are often required to provide at least 2 meals a day and give you a private room. This will help on the costs of meals every day, which adds up big time! The family may even bring you on free excursions around their region… who knows what might happen?!
Another way to save money is to get used to using public transportation. Many cities have great metro lines and busses that are cheap! Avoid using Uber and just leave a few minutes earlier on a bus! Go to https://thecollegeinvestor.com/18132/5-ways-save-money-studying-abroad/ for more tips on saving money while traveling abroad.
One thing to consider is to select a travel abroad internship. Many internships will pay you while working there… plus this may lead to a job after! This is a cool experience as it allows you to experience what it is like to work and live in another country!
Well there you have it! Thank you for coming back to read another one of my blogs. Come back next week for my final blog about traveling within the United States!
